Mountain Writing Project Fellows Visit EKU's Literacy and Writing Conference - September 10, 2011
Mountain writing project fellows gathered for a celebration of the Kentucky Writing Project. Twenty-Five years - WOW! As part of the Kentucky Writing Project, the Mountain Writing Project, started by Dr. Charles Whitaker has also celebrated its Fifteenth Year. Our fellows gathered for a special dinner hosted by EKU's director Sally Martin and the head of the Kentucky Writing Project Director and Louisville Writing Project Jean Wolf on Friday night September 9th. The fellows attended many sessions the next day on Literacy and the new writing requirements requested by the changes that were made with the new Common Core Standards.
Mountain Writing Project was pleased to announce that we had 2 fellows present at this years conference and 1 of the L-TIP Academy Attendants present.
Sabrina Back (Co-Director) from Morgan County presented on Valuing Videos: Using Web 2.0 Tools to Enhance Instruction and Connect Students
Jessica Cole (2011 SI fellow) presented her demonstration on: This is Math Class, Why are we Reading and Writing
Beverly Stephens (LTIP Attendant) presented on her technology plan during this years Literacy and Technology plan: Using iPod's for Webquest and Chat Forums For Group Discussions

Gurney Norman visits past fellows.
On Friday April 23, 2010, we had a retreat for all previous fellows at Hazard Community College. We were graced with the author Gurney Norman. Gurney Norman has written several books: Divine Rights Trip and Kinfolks. Norman is serving as Kentucky's 2009-2010 Poet Laureate. There was 16 writing project fellows in attendance. The fellows listened as Gurney Norman read an excerpt from his book Kinfolks.
